Vancouver Whitecaps FC Scouting Report

Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2-2-0, 6 pts) travel to Buck Shaw Stadium winless in their last two matches. Forward Kenny Miller leads the club with two goals, while four different ‘Caps players have assisted on the teams five goals this season. Vancouver features second-year striker Darren Mattocks who has scored seven of his nine MLS goals on the road, including his first goal of the 2013 season on March 23 against the Houston Dynamo. Saturday will also see the return of forward Erik Hurtado, who played at Buck Shaw Stadium while attending Santa Clara University from 2009-12.

Of Note

- Captain Ramiro Corrales made his 300th career MLS appearance in Saturday’s 2-0 loss against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. The last remaining active player from the league’s inaugural 1996 season, Corrales began his career with the San Jose Clash. He made his first appearance on April 28, 1996, subbing on for Victor Mella in the 87th minute of a 2-1 loss against the LA Galaxy.

- Chris Wondolowski has scored six of San Jose’s eight total goals against Vancouver. The two teams have met on five occasions since Whitecaps FC entered MLS in 2011. The only other Earthquakes player to score against Vancouver is Alan Gordon in two separate games last season.

- Defenders Victor Bernardez (Honduras) and Justin Morrow (United States) returned to the Earthquakes’ starting lineup on Saturday in a 2-0 loss against the Houston Dynamo, their first appearances since suiting up for their respective homelands. Bernardez played 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Mexico on March 22 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and went the distance again four days later in a 2-0 loss against Panama in Panama City. Meanwhile, Morrow was on the bench, but did not play, in a 1-0 United States win over Costa Rica in Denver, Colo. on March 22 and a scoreless draw against Mexico in Mexico City on March 26. Both players missed the Earthquakes’ 1-0 win against Seattle Sounders FC at Buck Shaw Stadium on March 23.
