SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they will have their players work with the You Can Play Project.

“We have enlisted the You Can Play Project to meet with our players and coaches to discuss the issues facing LGBT athletes in sports,” said Earthquakes President Dave Kaval. “They have built a great organization and we look forward to learning from their expertise and to furthering our work toward true unity in our locker room.”

“We are excited for the opportunity to address the San Jose Earthquakes locker room,” said You Can Play President Patrick Burke. “David Testo will accompany me to share his experiences as a gay soccer player. We believe our work will help educate the players on issues that are often not familiar to athletes.”

About You Can Play Project
You Can Play is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation. You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team’s success. You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skills, work ethic and competitive spirit.
