Fresh off their first road win of the season, The Quakes head to Washington D.C. this weekend looking to bag three more points from Saturday's match against last-place D.C. United. Here's what you should know ahead of the game:
1. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. PT on Saturday. Catch it on CSNCA and 1590 KLI. Watch it with fellow Quakes fans at one of our Preferred Pub Partners.
2. D.C. United is off to a rough start and have just one win in 15 games. Their six points puts them at the bottom of league standings and makes them an easy target for ridicule. However, don't rule out the black and red. Their roster touts the likes of veteran midfielder Dwayne De Rosario and U.S. International goalkeeper Bill Hamid. D.C. most recently fell 2-1 to Toronto FC last weekend at home.
3. The boys are back in town! Victor Bernardez and Martin Chavez have rejoined the Quakes and will be available for the match. Bernardez and Chavez have been with the Honduran National Team in recent weeks for World Cup Qualifying. Last weekend's victory over the Colorado Rapids also marked the first time key players Alan Gordon, Chris Wondolowski and Steven Lenhart all started together.
4. This game marks Mark Watson's second match as the interim head coach of the Quakes. While Watson is sticking to the 4-4-2 formation employed by Frank Yallop, Look for a more possession-oriented style a play on the field.
5. The Earthquakes and D.C. United have plenty of connections. To name a few:
- De Rosario began his MLS career with the Quakes in 2001. From 2001-2005, De Ro notched 27 goals and 31 assists. He also helped lead the Quakes to two MLS Cup championships in '01 and '03.
- De Rosario, Nana Attakora, Dejan Jakovic and Kyle Porter are capped Canadian Internationals.
- Brandon McDonald spent three seasons with San Jose from 2009-2011.
