Salinas suspended by MLS Disciplinary Committee

NEW YORK (July 3, 2013) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended San Jose midfielder Shea Salinas one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for elbowing his opponent, LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane, above the shoulders in the 5th minute of the June 29 game (VIDEO). The Committee determined that the act endangered the safety of his opponent.


The Committee has issued a one-game suspension and fine to Montreal Impact Head Coach Marco Schallibaum for entering the field of play in the 89th minute of the June 29 game against Colorado Rapids (VIDEO). In the same game, assistant coach Philippe Eullaffroy threw the ball at Rapids midfielder Tony Cascio. Eullaffroy has been suspended for one game and fined.


The Committee has fined D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen $2,000 for public criticism of the officials following his team’s 1-0 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on June 29. D.C. United assistant coach Chad Ashton has been fined for verbal abuse of the officials after the game.


The Committee has fined Toronto FC and the club’s Head Coach, Ryan Nelsen, for the team’s violation of the League’s mass confrontation policy. The violation occurred in the 78th minute of the June 29 game against Real Salt Lake during an altercation involving players from both teams (VIDEO). Real Salt Lake received a warning for mass confrontation; Toronto FC had been warned for a violation earlier this season.
