Sporting Kansas City Scouting Report

Sporting Kansas City (11-7-6, 39 pts.) enters Sunday’s match atop the Eastern Conference. SKC is coming off a 3-0 win over the New England Revolution. Striker Kei Kamara scored a brace in that match while midfielder Benny Feilhaber tacked on the final goal. After returning from his loan to English Premier League side Norwich City, Kamara has scored seven goals for Sporting KC, second on the team to Argentine Designated Player Claudio Bieler. Meanwhile, midfielder Graham Zusi leads the team with six assists. Sporting KC has been one of the top teams on the road in the league this season with a +2 goal differential and a record of 5-3-3.

Earthquakes Unbeaten in 13 Home Games vs. Sporting Kansas City
The Earthquakes are riding a 13-game home-unbeaten streak against Sporting Kansas City, a streak that originated in 2001. San Jose is 8-0-5 during that stretch with a 21-7 scoring margin. The last time Sporting Kansas City defeated the Earthquakes in the Bay Area was on Aug. 16, 2000, a 3-0 result at Spartan Stadium. San Jose’s streak is tied for second-longest in MLS history, four behind the New England Revolution against New York (active at 17 from Sept. 21, 2002 through May 11, 2013).


Wondolowski vs. Sporting Kansas City
Chris Wondolowski has scored once in each of his last four games against Sporting Kansas City. That stretch includes all of his appearances against SKC during his Earthquakes career.


Busch One Away from 100th Career Win
Veteran goalkeeper Jon Busch is one win away from 100 in his 13-year career. Busch has 39 wins in 106 games with the Earthquakes since signing on March 28, 2010. He also had 35 wins with the Columbus Crew from 2002-06 and 25 with the Chicago Fire from 2007-09. He recorded his first win in a 1-0 shutout with the Columbus Crew against D.C. United on April 27, 2002.


March to 200 Continues
The Earthquakes are three wins away from their 200th as an MLS club. San Jose secured their 100th win on July 19, 2003 against D.C. United when the Earthquakes won 2-1. Manny Lagos scored the game winner in the 54th minute.


CONCACAF Champions League Schedule
The Earthquakes will play four CONCACAF Champions League matches in group play after qualifying for the tournament by virtue of their Supporters’ Shield win in 2012. The schedule is as follows:

The Earthquakes will be holding their second annual 5K/10K Challenge presented by Stanford Hospital & Clinics on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. Participants can register at QuakesChallenge.com. Participants can also register for the race at the starting line of the event.
Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon will be signing autographs at San Jose Pride on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
