SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch and the club will donate $18,000 to the Navy SEAL Foundation as part of joint fundraising efforts throughout the year. The total is more than double the amount raised in 2012.
Busch, 37, and the Earthquakes accrued money throughout the year by way of the veteran goalkeeper’s Saves for SEALs program and several auctions. For a second-straight year, Busch pledged to donate $50 for each save he made in 2013, which totaled 101 for $5,050 with a matching amount from the Earthquakes Community Fund. Additionally, Busch raised money by auctioning his commemorative game-worn gear from the club’s 3-2 win against the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on June 29. He also had a special Saves for SEALs Supporters Section at the Stanford Stadium game with proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the Navy SEAL Foundation.
“The Navy SEAL Foundation is a charity that means a lot to me,” Busch said. “With everything that these guys do for us to protect this country, this is my small way of giving back to them. I hope that this donation helps their organization continue their mission of lending a hand to the SEAL community and their families.”
Last year, Busch and the Earthquakes raised $8,100 for the Navy SEAL Foundation.
