SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ten nationally televised games and stops at Stanford Stadium and Levi’s® Stadium highlight the San Jose Earthquakes’ 2014 schedule as Major League Soccer unveiled its full slate for the upcoming season on Monday.
San Jose will open its season at home against the Colorado Rapids on Sunday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT. Local television and radio broadcast schedules will be announced at a later date.
The Earthquakes will play at Stanford Stadium for a fourth-consecutive year on Saturday, June 28 against the LA Galaxy. The previous two editions drew sellout crowds of over 50,000. In addition to the soccer match, fans will be treated to a Salute to the Armed Forces halftimeshow and post-game fireworks extravaganza. Tickets will go on sale beginning Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a special Visa Pre-Sale with general public availability to follow two days later starting at 10 a.m. PT.
The club will also feature in the first-ever event at the San Francisco 49ers’ new home, Levi’s® Stadium, on Saturday, Aug. 2 against Seattle Sounders FC. Ticket information for that match will be available at a later date.
The national television slate includes five games on NBCSports Network, one on ESPN2, three on UniMas and one on Univision DeportesNetwork. The NBC Sports clip includes a stretch of three in a row, startingwith the club’s home game against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, July 23. Next up is the Aug. 2 date against Seattle at Levi’s® Stadium, followed by the Southern California leg of the California Clasico on Friday, Aug. 8. NBC Sports Network will also carry the Stanford Stadium leg of the Clasico and San Jose’s home match against D.C. United on Friday, July 11.
In addition to NBC Sports Network, the Earthquakes will appear on ESPN2 on Sunday, Sept. 7 against the Portland Timbers at JELD-WENField. The trio of UniMas matches includes: Sunday, April 13 against the Columbus Crew at Buck Shaw Stadium, Sunday, Sept. 14 against the LA Galaxy at Buck Shaw and Sunday, Oct. 26 against Chivas USA at the StubHub Center. Wrapping up the national television schedule is a match against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, Aug. 24 at PPL Park.
San Jose has a home-heavy schedule in the first half of the season. They host six of their first nine matches and then six of eight spanning June 28 through mid-August. The Earthquakes close with seven road fixtures in their final 10.
The Earthquakes are off from Sunday, June 8 until Saturday, June 28 as part of a league-wide FIFA break for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
