Quakes to host Deportivo Toluca FC

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will host Deportivo Toluca FC on Tuesday, March 11 in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium with television information to be announced at a later date.


The Earthquakes will travel to Mexico the following week for the second leg against Toluca on Wednesday, March 19 at Nemesio Diez Stadium. Kickoff will be 5 p.m. PT with television information to follow at a later date.


Earthquakes season ticket holders should use Bonus Game “A” for the match. They will have an exclusive opportunity to purchase additional seats starting on Monday, Jan. 13. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, Jan. 17 and will be available by visiting www.sjearthquakes.com or calling 1-800-225-2277.


The Earthquakes qualified for the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League competition by virtue of the club’s 2012 MLS Supporters’ Shield. They advanced past group play with six points, topping CD Heredia (Guatemala) and the Montreal Impact based on tiebreakers. The winner of the series against Toluca will face the winner of CD Arabe Unido (Panama) and LD Alajuelense (Costa Rica) starting in April.


Toluca is the top overall seed in the tournament after winning each of their four group games and outscoring opponents 15-4.


The winner of CONCACAF Champions League advances to the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco from Dec. 10-20. The event pits the club champions from each region as well as the league winner from the host nation in a single-elimination tournament to crown a world champion.
