Earthquakes to Unveil New Logo, Jersey on Jan. 30 at San Pedro Market
The Earthquakes will unveil the club’s new logo and jersey at their 40th Anniversary Party on Thursday, Jan. 30 at San Pedro Square Market in Downtown San Jose. The free event is open to the public and will also include a live concert by The Old Firm Casuals, featuring long-time Quakes fans Lars Frederiksen, as well as The Forgotten. The party begins at 5:30 p.m. PT. Fans can RSVP by visiting www.sjearthquakes.com. Each person who RSVPs to the event will be entered to win a free Earthquakes jersey.


40th Anniversary Event Details / Amenities
The party will begin at 5:30 p.m. PT with Earthquakes players available for autographs and photographs, along with a Q&A session featuring current and former Quakes. Fans in attendance will have the chance to remember the club’s roots with historical displays featuring items provided by History of San Jose, including numerous old Quakes jerseys. The club’s new stadium mobile preview center will also be on site to allow fans to sit in stadium seats and view a 3D seat map. Additionally, San Pedro Square Market’s vendors will offer discounts and specials to fans looking for food and drinks throughout the night. The logo and new uniforms will be unveiled in dramatic fashion at the event during a special presentation that will include Kaval and current and past players, along with San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. Immediately, following the presentation, the new jerseys and additional merchandise with the new logo will be available for purchase. The night will conclude with live performances from The Old Firm Casuals and The Forgotten.


SuperDraft: Quakes Take Stanford’s Koval at No. 9 Overall
The Earthquakes selected Stanford midfielder JJ Koval with the ninth overall selection in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Thursday at the Philadelphia Convention Center. In the second round, San Jose picked defender Joe Sofia from UCLA to complete the team’s draft day. Koval, 21, was a standout midfielder during his four seasons with the Cardinal, earning a starting role as a freshman and appearing in 74 games during his career. He earned All-Pac 12 honors as both a junior and a senior with the Cardinal, including a spot on the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2013. A central midfielder, he scored six goals and posted four assists during his collegiate career. As a senior, he helped Stanford reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating Loyola Marymount and Cal State Northridge along the way. Sofia, 22, completed a strong four-year career with the Bruins in 2013, starting 19 matches at center back and earning All-Pac-12 honors while helping UCLA to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. For his career, the Southern California native scored five goals and recorded eight assists in 82 games.


Earthquakes Win Schuler Lottery
The Earthquakes acquired former NCAA All-American forward Billy Schuler through a weighted lottery on Jan. 14. Schuler, 23, helped lead North Carolina to a national championship in 2011. He scored 16 goals and had five assists during the campaign and was named an NSCAA First Team All-American. Schuler tallied twice during the Tar Heels’ title run, a game winner against Indiana in the third round and an 85th-minute equalizer against UCLA in the College Cup Semifinals. He totaled 71 appearances, 29 goals and 15 assists during his three seasons with North Carolina and earned third-team NSCAA All-American honors in 2009 as well as NSCAA Freshman All-American recognition in 2008. Following his collegiate career, Schuler signed with Hammarby IF of Sweden under current Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter. He scored two goals in 26 appearances during his two seasons abroad and also spent time on loan with Nacka FF, Hammarby’s developmental team.


Earthquakes Sign French Midfielder Pierazzi
The Earthquakes made their first signing of the offseason on Jan. 7 when they announced the arrival of French midfielder Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi. The 28-year-old veteran has been with AC Ajaccio (France) since 2006. A native Corsican, Pierazzi helped L’ours earn promotion to Ligue 1 after a second-place finish in the second division in 2010-11. He has made 67 appearances over the last two-and-a-half seasons as a center midfielder for AC Ajaccio.


San Jose Acquires Midfielder Harris from Colorado
The Earthquakes acquired Colorado midfielder Atiba Harris in exchange for Marvin Chavez on Jan. 7. Harris, 28, has 22 goals and 20 assists during his eight-year MLS career. Most recently, he scored five goals and had one assist in 29 appearances while helping the Colorado Rapids reach the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs. He has spent his entire career in the Western Conference with stops at Real Salt Lake, Chivas USA, FC Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Colorado.


CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Schedule Announced
The Earthquakes will host Deportivo Toluca FC on Tuesday, March 11 in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium with television information to be announced at a later date. San Jose will travel to Mexico the following week for the second leg on Wednesday, March 19 at Nemesio Diez Stadium. Kickoff will be 5 p.m. PT with television information to follow at a later date. Wondolowski, Goodson Called to USMNT Duty
Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski were called to United States Men’s National Team duty by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann on Friday for the Americans’ first 2014 FIFA World Cup preparation camp of the year. The duo reported to Carson, Calif. on Saturday, Jan. 6 and will remain with the U.S. through their friendly against South Korea on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the StubHub Center (2 p.m. PT / ESPN2, UniMas). The Americans will train in Southern California from Jan. 7-12 before departing for Brazil for two weeks in Sao Paolo. They will return stateside on Jan. 26 ahead of their friendly against South Korea.


10 Nationally Televised Games for Earthquakes in 2014
The Earthquakes announced their 2014 slate on Monday, a schedule that includes 10 nationally televised games and home dates at Stanford Stadium and Levi’s® Stadium. Individual tickets for all games except matches at Stanford Stadium and Levi’s® Stadium will be available through a special Visa Pre-Sale starting on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Stanford Stadium On-Sale Date
The Earthquakes will play at Stanford Stadium for a fourth-consecutive year on Saturday, June 28 against the LA Galaxy. The previous two editions drew sellout crowds of over 50,000. In addition to the soccer match, fans will be treated to a Salute to the Armed Forces halftime show and post-game fireworks extravaganza. Tickets will go on sale beginning Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a special Visa Pre-Sale. General public availability will follow two days later starting at 10 a.m. PT.


Earthquakes to Open Levi’s® Stadium on Aug. 2, 2014
The Santa Clara Stadium Authority and the San Jose Earthquakes announced that they have partnered to present the first event at Levi’s® Stadium. The Earthquakes will play host to Seattle Sounders FC in one of Major League Soccer’s most heated rivalries on August 2, 2014. Earthquakes season ticket holders and Levi’s® Stadium SBL holders will have priority access to tickets for this event. Tickets for the general public go on sale at a later date. In order to ensure great seats at the match, fans should call the Earthquakes Front Office at 408-556-7700 to purchase season tickets today.


Club Announces Creation of PDL Affiliate
The Earthquakes became the fourth MLS club to establish a Premier Development League squad last week. They will begin competing in 2014 with a home location and coaching staff still to be decided. The PDL has over 60 teams from the United States and Canada split amongst four conferences. The rosters are comprised of amateur players in the U-23 age group. The Earthquakes’ squad will feature players who have competed for the club’s Academy and other locally-based talent. Other MLS teams to field teams directly in the PDL include the Chicago Fire, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Portland Timbers, while Seattle Sounders FC, the New England Revolution and the Philadelphia Union also hold affiliations with the PDL’s Sounders FC U-23, Real Boston Rams and Reading United AC, respectively. ACADEMY NOTES

Earthquakes U-16s
The Earthquakes U-16s defeated the De Anza Force 1-0 in their first game of the New Year. Pablo Gervacio scored in the 14th minute for his second goal of the season. Meanwhile, Remi Prieur picked up the clean sheet as San Jose improved to 9-4-0, tied for first in the Northwest Division. The U-16s return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 against the Santa Cruz Breakers. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. PT at the club’s training facility on Coleman Ave.


Earthquakes U-18s
The Earthquakes U-18s knocked off the De Anza Force 1-0 in their first game of the New Year. Macario Hing-Glover tallied in the 83rd minute to give San Jose a dramatic win. Luke Dennison earned the shutout in goal as San Jose improved to 5-4-4 in Northwest Division play. The U-18s return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25 against the Santa Cruz Breakers. Kickoff is 12 p.m. PT at the club’s training facility on Coleman Ave.
