Earthquakes to Unveil New Logo, Jersey on Jan. 30 at San Pedro Market
The Earthquakes will unveil the club’s new logo and jersey at their 40th Anniversary Party on Thursday, Jan. 30 at San Pedro Square Market in Downtown San Jose. The free event is open to the public and will also include a live concert by The Old Firm Casuals, featuring long-time Quakes fans Lars Frederiksen, as well as The Forgotten. The party begins at 5:30 p.m. PT. Fans can RSVP by visiting www.sjearthquakes.com. Each person who RSVPs to the event will be entered to win a free Earthquakes jersey.


40th Anniversary Event Details / Amenities
The party will begin at 5:30 p.m. PT with Earthquakes players available for autographs and photographs, along with a Q&A session featuring current and former Quakes. Fans in attendance will have the chance to remember the club’s roots with historical displays featuring items provided by History of San Jose, including numerous old Quakes jerseys. The club’s new stadium mobile preview center will also be on site to allow fans to sit in stadium seats and view a 3D seat map. Additionally, San Pedro Square Market’s vendors will offer discounts and specials to fans looking for food and drinks throughout the night. The logo and new uniforms will be unveiled in dramatic fashion at the event during a special presentation that will include Kaval and current and past players, along with San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. Immediately, following the presentation, the new jerseys and additional merchandise with the new logo will be available for purchase. The night will conclude with live performances from The Old Firm Casuals and The Forgotten.


Wondolowski, Goodson on USMNT Duty
Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski have been training with the United States Men’s National Team since Jan. 6. The Americans recently returned stateside after a weeklong training stint in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The USMNT will face South Korea in a friendly on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the StubHub Center (2 p.m. PT / ESPN2, UniMas).


Thompson Becomes San Jose’s First Homegrown Player
The San Jose Earthquakes introduced Tommy Thompson as the club’s first Homegrown Player last week. The Loomis, Calif. native signed his contract on Wednesday during a press conference on the future playing field of the club’s new stadium. Thompson, 18, led Indiana to a Big-Ten Tournament title in his freshman season, helping the Hoosiers reach the NCAA Tournament in the process. He led his team with five goals and three assists in 16 games. He was named the Big-Ten Freshman of the Year and earned Big-Ten Second-Team All-Conference honors. Nationally, TopDrawerSoccer.com and College Soccer News tabbed Thompson for their NCAA Freshman Best XI teams. Before departing for Indiana, Thompson suited up for the Earthquakes in 2013 Reserve League action. He led the team with four assists in his five appearances, three of which were starts. Thompson attended Granite Bay High School in the Sacramento area where he helped turn the Grizzlies into one of the top prep teams in the nation. He scored 29 goals and had 12 assists while helping Granite Bay to a 26-0-1 record as a freshman. He followed that up with 23 goals and nine assists one year later before missing his junior season due to injury. He graduated early with a 4.1 grade-point average to continue his career at Indiana along with his brother, Tanner. His dad, Gregg Thompson, was an All-American at Indiana and represented the United States at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In addition to his prep work, Thompson was a standout for Cal Blues, one of the premier club teams in the Sacramento area.


San Jose, Sacramento Republic FC Announce USL PRO Affiliation
The Earthquakes and Sacramento Republic FC announced a joint USL PRO affiliate partnership for the 2014 season last week. The Earthquakes and the Portland Timbers have entered a joint affiliation with Sacramento, with each team sending a minimum of two players on loan to Republic FC in lieu of participating in the 2014 MLS Reserve League. Each team will have the option to recall their players at any point during the loan.


Earthquakes Sign Trio of Veterans
The Earthquakes signed a trio of MLS veterans last week, including defenders Brandon Barklage and Shaun Francis and goalkeeper Bryan Meredith. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Barklage, 27, has two goals and 10 assists during his five years in MLS. He began his career with D.C. United as a third-round pick in the 2009 SuperDraft. He made 11 appearances during his three years in the nation’s capital before signing with the New York Red Bulls on March 5, 2012. Barklage became a regular with the squad during his two years there, making 45 appearances while recording all of his career goals and assists. Francis, 27, is a four-year MLS veteran with experience on the Jamaican national team. He has four assists in 29 appearances during his career. Francis was taken by the Columbus Crew in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He began 2013 as a member of the Charlotte Eagles in USL-Pro before signing with the Chicago Fire on July 10. Meredith, 24, was a second-round pick (29th overall) in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by Seattle Sounders FC. He spent 2011 and 2012 with Seattle before moving on to IK Brage in Sweden. Meredith made 12 appearances for Sounders FC in 2012, picking up three shutouts in the process. He also spent time with the New York Cosmos in 2013, but did not make an appearance.


Quakes Select Three on Day 2 of MLS SuperDraft
The Earthquakes selected Indiana midfielder A.J. Corrado, Oakland native Devante Dubose and San Francisco native Billy Knutsen in Day Two of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. Corrado, 22, had three goals and a team-high seven assists in 22 appearances for Indiana in 2013. During his three seasons in Indiana, he registered six goals and 23 assists in 68 games. Twelve of those assists came during the Hoosiers’ NCAA Championship season in 2012. He earned All-Big-Ten honors as a junior and senior and received Capital One Academic All-American recognition in 2013. He also spent his freshman season with Southern Methodist University, scoring one goal and recording one assist in 18 appearances for the Mustangs while helping them reach the Elite Eight. Dubose, 21, was a mainstay on Virginia Tech’s backline during his four seasons there. He made 60 appearances for the Hokies as a center back. Dubose has Bay Area ties, suiting up for Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland) and Danville’s Mustang Academy. Knutsen, 21, was a two-year starter at goalkeeper for American University, notching 13 shutouts in 37 games between 2012 and 2013. He posted goals-against averages of 1.06 and 0.93 per game in 2013 and 2012, respectively. Knutsen also made eight appearances during his first two seasons at American, recording three shutouts in the process. A San Francisco native, he played high school soccer for St. Ignatius Prep.


CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Schedule Announced
The Earthquakes will host Deportivo Toluca FC on Tuesday, March 11 in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium with television information to be announced at a later date. San Jose will travel to Mexico the following week for the second leg on Wednesday, March 19 at Nemesio Diez Stadium. Kickoff will be 5 p.m. PT with television information to follow at a later date. 10 Nationally Televised Games for Earthquakes in 2014
The Earthquakes announced their 2014 slate on Monday, a schedule that includes 10 nationally televised games and home dates at Stanford Stadium and Levi’s® Stadium. Individual tickets for all games except matches at Stanford Stadium and Levi’s® Stadium will be available through a special Visa Pre-Sale starting on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Stanford Stadium On-Sale Date
The Earthquakes will play at Stanford Stadium for a fourth-consecutive year on Saturday, June 28 against the LA Galaxy. The previous two editions drew sellout crowds of over 50,000. In addition to the soccer match, fans will be treated to a Salute to the Armed Forces halftime show and post-game fireworks extravaganza. Tickets will go on sale beginning Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a special Visa Pre-Sale. General public availability will follow two days later starting at 10 a.m. PT.


Earthquakes to Open Levi’s® Stadium on Aug. 2, 2014
The Santa Clara Stadium Authority and the San Jose Earthquakes announced that they have partnered to present the first event at Levi’s® Stadium. The Earthquakes will play host to Seattle Sounders FC in one of Major League Soccer’s most heated rivalries on August 2, 2014. Earthquakes season ticket holders and Levi’s® Stadium SBL holders will have priority access to tickets for this event. Tickets for the general public go on sale at a later date. In order to ensure great seats at the match, fans should call the Earthquakes Front Office at 408-556-7700 to purchase season tickets today.


ACADEMY NOTES

Earthquakes U-16s
The Earthquakes U-16s defeated the Santa Cruz Breakers 5-0 on Saturday in Danville. Pablo Gervacio had a brace while Phil Hausen, Theo Huxham and Rhys Pak capped the scoring with one each. Remi Prieur picked up his second clean sheet in as many games to start the New Year in goal for the Quakes. The U-16s return to action on Saturday, Feb.8 against Nomads SC. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. PT at Kinsell Field in San Diego.


Earthquakes U-18s
The Earthquakes U-18s beat the Santa Cruz Breakers 3-0 on Saturday in Danville. Macario Hing-Glover, Elisama Padilla and Alex Liua accounted for the scoring while JT Marcinkowski earned the shutout in goal. The U-18s return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 against Nomads SC. Kickoff is 12 p.m. PT at Kinsell Field in San Diego.
