Portland, Ore. – The San Jose Earthquakes picked up a clean sheet and won their opening game at the Rose City Invitational 1-0 against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park 689045158" tabindex="0">on Sunday.


The Earthquakes found the scoreboard in the 26th minute thanks to an own goal from Portland’s Norberto Paparatto. Shea Salinas played a corner kick short to Sam Cronin, who whipped a cross toward the far post. Clarence Goodson won the ensuing header and nodded the ball across the goal face. Both Steven Lenhart and Paparatto rose for the ball, with the Argentinean ultimately knocking his attempted clearance into his own net.
