Last MLS Game vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
Earthquakes 0, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 0; Oct. 18, 2014; Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
The San Jose Earthquakes played their final game at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, drawing 0-0 in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,525. The club will move into its new 18,000-seat stadium adjacent to Mineta San Jose International Airport on Coleman Ave. next season. The clean sheet was Jon Busch’s sixth of the season and first since a 1-0 win on Aug. 2 against Seattle Sounders FC at Levi’s Stadium. It also marked the first match with interim head coach Ian Russell on the sidelines. San Jose’s best chance came in the 44th minute after Shea Salinas cut a cross on the grass to Chris Wondolowski. The lethal striker blasted a shot near-post on the run, but Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted was able to knock the ball away and end the threat. The Earthquakes played at Buck Shaw Stadium for seven years after re-joining Major League Soccer in 2008. Following Saturday’s result, the club finished 50-27-36 all-time at the venue. San Jose closed the season with seven sellouts in a row at Buck Shaw Stadium. The club sold out 13 of their 15 games at the facility and also notched sellouts at Stanford Stadium (50,006) and Levi’s Stadium (48,765 – capacity was 48,000 for this match).
