Last Game vs. Houston Dynamo
Earthquakes 3, Houston Dynamo 0; May 25, 2014; Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Jamaican midfielder Khari Stephenson recorded his first career brace to lead the Earthquakes to a 3-0 win against the Houston Dynamo in front of a sold-out crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium. Stephenson scored his first off an indirect free kick and then converted a penalty in the second half. Kittitian midfielder Atiba Harris accounted for San Jose’s last goal, giving the Earthquakes their largest margin of victory since a 4-1 win against the Colorado Rapids on Oct. 6, 2012. San Jose broke through in the 38th minute after Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall picked up a back-pass from teammate David Horst. The result was an indirect free kick for the Earthquakes. Shea Salinas tapped the ball back to Stephenson, who blasted his shot around the wall and into the net for his first of two goals. The assist was Salinas’ fifth of the season, tied with Seattle’s Obafemi Martins for tops in the league. Stephenson doubled his haul early in the second half after Steven Lenhart drew a penalty. Stephenson coolly placed his shot to Hall’s right for his first multi-goal game as a professional. Atiba Harris capped the scoring in the 70th minute. Jordan Stewart sent a long pass that caught Hall off his line with Harris charging toward goal. The two met at the edge of the 18-yard box with Harris winning the aerial battle, only to see his header draw the post. However, he was first to the rebound and tapped in his first goal as a member of the Earthquakes.
