Last Game
Earthquakes 1, Toronto FC 3; May 30, 2015; BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario
The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Toronto FC 3-1 on a rain-soaked pitch at BMO Field. Forward Chris Wondolowski netted his eighth goal of the season and has now scored a goal in five of the team's last six matches. In the 12th minute, Toronto FC played a long ball from the back that seemingly gave forward Sebastian Giovinco a clear path to goal, but Quakes keeper David Bingham rushed outside of the penalty area and headed the ball to safety. Four minutes later, Bingham came up big once again. From just outside the six-yard box, Giovinco ripped a shot, forcing Bingham to make a quick-reaction save. The ball then caromed off the crossbar and was eventually cleared out of harm's way. Toronto FC took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Justin Morrow's diving header snuck inside the far post off a cross from the left wing by Giovinco. Toronto's early advantage was short-lived, however, as San Jose leveled the score on the right foot of Chris Wondolowski just two minutes later. Toronto defender Ashtone Morgan was called for a handball inside the penalty area and Wondolowski converted by driving the ball low and hard into the back of the net. Wondolowski has now scored a goal in four consecutive games. Toronto re-took the lead in the 33rd minute when midfielder Warren Creavalle ripped a low shot from the edge of the penalty area that skipped on the grass and just past the outstretched arms of Bingham. TFC made the score line 3-1 in the 71st minute. Giovinco played a low ball across the front of the net and forward Luke Moore redirected it goal-ward. The Quakes were without several midfielders, including Designated Player Matias Perez Garcia, and Fatai Alashe and Tommy Thompson, who were called to represent the U.S. U-23s and U-20s, respectively. Forward Mark Sherrod saw his first playing time of the season, entering the game in the 75th minute, and JJ Koval made his first start since April 17 against the New York Red Bulls.
