SAN JOSE, Calif. -
Ronald Cerritos played the role of assist man on June 18, 2005 to help ignite a convincing 3-0 win against Western Conference foe Real Salt Lake. All goals were tallied in the first half of play at Spartan Stadium with the first coming in the 2nd minute by Mark Chung. After a great passing sequence in the midfield, the ball was played out to Brad Davis on the left sideline. En route to Salt Lake’s endline, Davis pinged a low ball across the penalty area toward Chung, who buried his one-time finish for a 1-0 Quakes lead.

The Quakes extended their lead in the 13th minute thanks to San Jose native Kelly Gray. After receiving the ball along the sideline, Cerritos found Gray on an overlapping run. With one man to beat, Gray darted past a Real Salt Lake defender before slotting his shot past outstretched goalkeeper D.J. Countess for a 2-0 lead.

Wade Barrett was the next to tally for San Jose in the 35th minute. After finding Cerritos in the middle of the park, Barrett raced toward the box in hopes of connecting on an incoming service. Cerritos, destined for the endline, whipped in a cross through the box and ahead of a blistering run from Barrett, who redirected his shot into goal. The goal was Barrett’s first since May 4, 2002 in all MLS competition.
