The Earthquakes fell 3-0 on the road against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. San Jose dressed just 16 players for the match due to injuries, international call-ups and suspension. Rodney Wallace opened the scoring for Portland in the 41st minute. The Costa Rican international finished from a tight angle in the box after Darlington Nagbe sprung him with pass from the top of the area. Diego Valeri tacked on two goals in the second half to account for the final score, starting with a penalty in the 51st minute. Jason Hernandez was whistled for a foul inside the box on a Timbers free kick, setting up Valeri’s spot kick. The Argentinean playmaker connected his brace a little over 20 minutes later, tapping his shot into an open net after Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch saved a blast from Wallace at the near post.
History of the Quakes-Portland Timbers Rivalry
