FREEKICK Magazine was the official program of MLS. Think "Matchday" programs that fans receive at Quakes games at Avaya Stadium, but in 1996! The first San Jose Clash edition of FREEKICK, shown below, included a letter from Doug Logan, the first commissioner of MLS, introductions to all of 10 of the participating teams, and articles familiarizing fans with the birth of the most successful professional league in the history of American soccer.

On April 2nd, as we celebrate 20 years since we kicked off vs. D.C. United, attending fans will receive a special Clash-focused edition of Matchday, as well as the first 10,000 fans walking away with special original Clash jersey t-shirts, courtesy of Gyft.

Below is one of the very articles featured in that first edition of FREEKICK that discusses the introduction of the league powered by legendary American soccer figures Eric Wynalda and Alexi Lalas.
