On April 2, 2016, the San Jose Earthquakes drew with D.C. United 1-1 at Avaya Stadium, honoring the 20-year anniversary of the 1996 MLS inaugural match at Spartan Stadium. On April 6, 1996, a sell-out crowd of 31,683 fans witnessed the San Jose Clash defeat D.C. United 1-0 behind Eric Wynalda's game-winning goal.
