SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

Overall thoughts on the game:
“I don’t think it was ball possession that really let us down tonight because we had a number of chances. We still could have scored some more goals. I thought our defending was passive and they took advantage of that. I’ll have to look back at all the other goals, but I do know a couple we were just very passive, we sat a little bit too deep, gave them too much room and we got punished for it.”

On the Earthquakes defense against LA:
“They moved the ball well; you have to give them credit. It’s not like everything they did was because of us. They have good players out there, and I thought Giovani [Dos Santos] tonight was excellent. He had a good game, he was everywhere and he held the ball well. He had a good night for them. I thought we gave them too much room and I think at times we were a little bit disjointed. Our lines were too far apart and at times they took advantage of the space that was in between those lines.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER TOMMY THOMPSON

On his assist:
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve played over 50 MLS games now and I am confident in whatever position I need to play and I think it finally shows.”

On Danny Hoesen’s goal:
“Danny’s always making good runs, so it felt good to connect with him. We have been working on that a lot in practice so it is nice that it paid off on the field.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD DANNY HOESEN

On first goal:
“I think it was a good goal. A great cross by Tommy [Thompson]. I was hoping he was going to beat his man so I sawed off the defender to try and cut in front of him … It took me a while but hopefully now I can keep going.”
