Quotes from the Quakes 2-1 win on Saturday

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP
On game:
“Overall, I am very happy with our response after our first game at home. To come to Chicago, which is a tough place to play, and get a win is great. I am proud of the guys for their effort tonight.”

On goals:
“On the first one, we put pressure on their defense and got the turnover. It was a nice finish by Arturo (Alvarez). The second goal was a great run by Bobby (Convey) and he served a nice ball for Ike (Opara). It was good to see Ike getting in there and finishing that play off.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER IKE OPARA
On scoring game-winner:
“It is definitely a goal I am going to cherish for a good time. Bobby (Convey) whipped in a good ball and I lost my man back stick and all I had to do was finish it.”

On team’s performance:
“We came out strong early in the first half and then we kept battling the whole game. Jason (Hernandez) made a big clearance that was a game-changing play for us. After that we buckled down and were able to get out of there with a win.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER JASON HERNANDEZ
On goal line clearance:
“That’s a play that defenders dream of making. I think at 1-1 that is a huge play for us. If that goes in, we are scrapping and trying to salvage a tie. Last year we didn’t have the luck go our way, but maybe tonight we got a little good fortune for the Earthquakes.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER BOBBY CONVEY
On Opara’s goal:
“I saw that I had (Brian) McBride on me and I have known him for a long time so I knew I could run by him. I just cut inside and I saw a bunch of runs. I am not sure who cut in front of him (Ike Opara), but it opened up some space and I saw him (Opara) late.”

On game:
“Our first win away last year was in DC four or five months into the season. This win gets us on our feet a little bit. We can celebrate this win now and it is a lot easier to go into the next game when you win. There were a lot of positives from tonight that we can take into the next game.”
