Andre Luiz Placed on Disabled List

The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Andre Luiz has been placed on the disabled list. Andre Luiz will have surgery on his left knee to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and repair the medial collateral ligament (MCL).


The Brazil native has played in nine games this season and has registered one assist. He joined San Jose in July of 2009 and helped stabilize the central midfield position.


Andre Luiz joined the Quakes after playing with Jaguares de Chiapas in the Mexican First Division. The 34-year-old central midfielder has played for successful clubs around the world such as Paris St. Germain (France), Olympique de Marseille (France), S.L. Benfica (Portugal), C.D. Tenerife (Spain), Sao Paulo and Corinthians (Brazil). Overall, he has appeared in over 300 professional matches in his career and scored over 20 goals.
