The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 1-1 draw against D.C. United in their first game at Buck Shaw Stadium in over a month. The Quakes hit the road this week for their match Saturday, July 10 against the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park at 3 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel and 1220 KDOW. It is the first time the Earthquakes will face the expansion Union in franchise history.

The San Jose Earthquakes returned home for the first time in over a month and earned a 1-1 draw against visiting D.C. United. Ike Opara’s third goal of the season, which came in the 16th minute on a set piece started the Quakes off on the right foot. Bobby Convey’s cross took some deflections before it found Opara at the back post. He then turned around and fired it inside Troy Perkins’ near post on the half volley for the goal. D.C. United midfielder Andy Najar leveled the score just nine minutes into the second half off of a cross by Stephen King and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Earthquakes Debut Blue Third Strip Jersey Against D.C. United on July 3
The San Jose Earthquakes debuted a blue third strip jersey against D.C. United on Saturday, July 3 at Buck Shaw Stadium. It was the first time the Earthquakes had worn blue jerseys since October 25, 2005. The kit includes a blue shirt, blue shorts and blue socks. The Earthquakes wore blue jerseys from 2000-2005, during which the team won two MLS Cups (2001, 2003) and a Supporter’s Shield (2005), and amassed a record of 75-56-47. When the Earthquakes returned to Major League Soccer in 2008 following a two-year hiatus, the team decided to go in a new direction and wore black jerseys as their primary kit. The Earthquakes now have the blue jersey, which they will wear a few times a year for special games.
Opara Scores Third Career Goal
Earthquakes rookie defender Ike Opara scored San Jose’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against D.C. United on Saturday, July 3 at Buck Shaw Stadium. It was Opara’s third goal of the season, and it came in the 16th minute on a set piece. Opara found a bouncing ball at the back post and put it in the net on the half volley.
Earthquakes Travel to Philadelphia to Face the Union for the First Time in Franchise History
The Earthquakes will face the expansion Philadelphia Union for the first time in franchise history on Saturday, July 11 at 3 p.m. PT. In their first season, the Union are 3-7-2 overall, including 2-0-1 at home, one of four teams unbeaten at home so far in 2010 (Los Angeles Galaxy, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC).

This season, the Earthquakes are 5-0-1 when scoring the first goal and 3-0-1 when leading at halftime.
Quakes Release Sanchez and Weber
The San Jose Earthquakes released midfielder Ramon Sanchez and goalkeeper Andrew Weber on June 30. Sanchez appeared in 13 matches since signing with the Quakes in 2009. He started 11 matches and scored a pair of goals and notched one assist, all of which were registered in 2009. The El Salvador international midfielder played just 83 minutes in 2010, starting once and appearing as a substitute twice. Weber appeared in two matches last season, picking up his first career MLS win on Sept. 27, 2009 against D.C. United. He had yet to play this season for San Jose. He was signed by the Earthquakes on April 11, 2009.

This total ties his career high, which he matched in 2001 for D.C. United. Convey trails only Galaxy midfielder, Landon Donovan, who has nine assists. Convey also ranks third in assists per game with a 0.58 average.

The San Jose Earthquakes announced that their match against club partner Tottenham Hotspur will kick off at 1 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Fewer than 1,000 tickets remain for Saturday, July 17 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The match will kick off at 1 p.m. PT to allow ESPN to air the game live.

For San Jose, Cannon is first in club history as a goalkeeper in starts (170), minutes played (15,471), saves (686), wins (65), and shutouts (43) and second in appearances (170), goals against average (1.33), and saves percentage (73.4). He also holds the team's all-time record for saves in a game with 12 on July 8, 2000 at Colorado.
Corrales Among All-Time Leaders
Ramiro Corrales has the most appearances in franchise history with 180 and has made 164 starts, while logging 14,585 minutes played as a member of the Quakes. He is now alone in second place in franchise history in starts, third in all-time in club history for minutes played and ninth in assists with 21.
Quakes Host Club Partner Tottenham Hotspur July 17
The San Jose Earthquakes will play club partner Tottenham Hotspur from the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday, July 17 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The kick-off will be at 1 p.m. PT. Season ticket holders should use their Bonus Game “B” ticket for the match. Tickets are on sale now and range from $20-$50 and can be purchased by calling (800) 225-2277 or by logging on to sjearthquakes.com. Tottenham Hotspur, also known as Spurs, signed a club partnership agreement in 2008 with the objective of creating a long-term bond between the two clubs. The relationship focuses on both soccer and commercial development by exchanging and implementing the best practices from both organizations. The partnership to date has seen Earthquakes technical staff visiting Spurs Lodge on numerous occasions, with the team using the Tottenham Hotspur training facility as a base for this season’s pre-season preparations.

Philadelphia Match on Sept. 18 Moved to Sept. 15
The San Jose Earthquakes announced last week that their game that was scheduled for Saturday, September 18 has been moved to Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The full 2010 Earthquakes schedule is available on www.sjearthquakes.com.
Quakes Individual Tickets
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that individual tickets for all 2010 Earthquakes home games are now on sale. The Quakes significantly reduced prices for the 2010 season with prices ranging from $20-50. Tickets for the much anticipated 2010 campaign are available online at sjearthquakes.com or by calling 1-800-225-2277. The new, reduced prices for the 2010 season are as follows; Premier Midfield $50 per game ($60 in 2009), Center Circle $35 per game ($40 in 2009), Sideline $25 per game ($35 in 2009) and Goal View $20 per game ($22 in 2009).
Earthquakes 2010 Partial Plan
The San Jose Earthquakes have one partial plan for the 2010 season still available, the Pick 6 Plan. With the Pick 6 Plan you can select any six Earthquakes home games at Buck Shaw Stadium during the 2010 regular season.
