The San Jose Earthquakes pulled out a 1-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. Chris Wondolowski supplied the only goal, as he found the back of the net in the 35th minute after a delicate chip from the newest Earthquakes midfielder, Khari Stephenson. Wondolowski was free at the back post and finished with a volley to put the Quakes in front. Joe Cannon returned as Quakes goalkeeper and posted a shutout, his sixth this season, allowing San Jose to extend their home unbeaten streak against Kansas City to 13 games, which dates back to August of 2000.

The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 2-2 draw with the MLS-leading Los Angeles Galaxy in Carson, Calif. Bobby Convey, fresh off his selection to the MLS All-Star team proved why, scoring his first goal of the season in the 2nd minute of play. Convey put in a rebound off of a Cornell Glen effort from just inside the area that was spilled by fellow All-Star selection Donovan Ricketts. After a touch from Sean Franklin, Convey was there to finish for the fastest goal on the year for San Jose at one minute and 39 seconds into the match. Edson Buddle equalized in the 59th minute, finding the back of the net for the 12th time of 2010. Todd Dunivant found him alone towards the back post, and his touch crossed the line off of the crossbar. San Jose pulled the lead back in the 72nd minute off yet another set piece. Convey’s corner found Ike Opara, whose shot was saved initially by Ricketts, but McDonald was there for his first goal of the campaign, and third of his career. Los Angeles pulled out the draw with a stoppage time goal from Landon Donovan after a goalmouth scramble.

Khari Stephenson Shines in San Jose Debut
Newly signed midfielder Khari Stephenson made his Earthquakes debut on Saturday, August 14 at Buck Shaw Stadium and made an immediate impact, assisting on the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards. Stephenson made a great lofting pass to Chris Wondolowski who made a run to the backpost and finished with a volley in the 35th minute of the game for his first career assist in MLS. Stephenson started and played all 90 minutes. Stephenson returns to the MLS after spending the past five seasons playing in Sweden and Norway. He began his professional career in the MLS with the Chicago Fire after being drafted 27th overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft out of Williams College. He was traded to the Kansas City Wizards, appearing in nine matches from 2004-2005.
Joe Cannon Records Shutout in Return
Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon returned to the San Jose starting lineup for the first time in six games and recorded a shutout in the Earthquakes 1-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, August 14 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Cannon made seven saves, including some impressive ones down the stretch as the Earthquakes held on to win for the first time at Buck Shaw Stadium since May 8.
Earthquakes Continue Home Dominance over Kansas City
With Saturday’s 1-0 win, the Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak at home against the Kansas City Wizards to 12 matches in regular season play, and 14 matches overall. The 12-match regular season streak is tied for the second longest home streak against a single team in MLS history. Colorado (over Los Angeles), Columbus (over Dallas), Los Angeles (over Kansas City) and New York (over Kansas City) have each achieved a 12-match home unbeaten streak. The record is 13 games, achieved by Dallas (over Colorado) and New England (over New York). The 14-match home unbeaten streak (including playoffs) against Kansas City is the longest streak against a single opponent in franchise history. The last time San Jose fell to Kansas City at home was on August 16, 2000, a 3-0 loss at Spartan Stadium.
Hernandez to Miss Galaxy Game
Earthquakes defender Jason Hernandez will miss Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Galaxy after he received a red card in the 88th minute of the game against the Kansas City Wizards for violent conduct. Hernandez served as the team’s captain in the Kansas City game in the absence of defender Ramiro Corrales.
Wondo Finds Back of the Net Again
Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards. It was Wondolowski’s first goal since scoring the equalizer in a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew on June 2 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Jasseh Returns to Earthquakes after Playing in Africa
Midfielder Omar Jasseh returned to the Earthquakes after playing with the Gambia U-20 National Team in the 17th African Orange U-20 Championship. The Young Scorpions advanced to the next round of the tournament, winning on aggregate 4-1 over Sierra Leone. Jasseh scored in a 4-1 win on July 26 at Independence Stadium in Bakau, Gambia. The two sides drew 0-0 in the second leg in Sierra Leone. Jasseh came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute in the Earthquakes 1-0 win over Kansas City on Saturday.
Johnson Returns from National Team Duty
Forward Ryan Johnson returned to the Earthquakes after playing with the Jamaican National Team in their international friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, August 11. Johnson started in Jamaica’s 3-1 victory at Marvin Lee Stadium in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Road Warriors
With a road record this season of 3-3-3, the Earthquakes have as many wins on the road as the team had in 2008 and 2009 combined. In 2008, the Earthquakes went 2-8-5 on the road in their first season back. In 2009, the Earthquakes went 1-10-5 with the lone win coming against D.C. United on September 27, 2009 at RFK Stadium. With 12 points on the road so far this season, the Earthquakes have surpassed the 11 points the team had in 2008 for the most points earned on the road since the team returned. The franchise record for points on the road in a single season is 30 points, achieved in 2005.
History of the Quakes-Galaxy Rivalry
As the two original MLS teams in California, the Earthquakes (then known as the Clash) and the Galaxy met for the first time in league history on April 28, 1996 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. In front of a crowd of 40,347, the Clash fell to the Galaxy 2-1. From 1996-2005, the two teams met each other more than any other teams in the league. Along with playing each other 43 times in the regular season, the Quakes and the Galaxy have also met eight times in the playoffs and four times in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The teams squared off in the playoffs in 1996, 2001, 2003 and 2005 ... The Galaxy captured the 1996 playoff series two games to one, winning the final two games of the series at the Rose Bowl ... In 2001, the two teams met in MLS Cup with the Quakes earning a 2-1 overtime win. Dwayne De Rosario scored the winning goal in overtime for San Jose ... The 2003 playoff series between the Galaxy and the Quakes produced one of the most memorable games in league history. After losing the opening game of the two-game aggregate goal series 2-0, San Jose fell behind 2-0 in the second game to trail 4-0 overall in the series. However, the Earthquakes responded with four goals in regulation to tie the series 4-4. Chris Ronér tied the series in the 90th minute. Rodrigo Faria then scored six minutes into overtime to send San Jose to the Western Conference Championship game. The Quakes would go on to win the 2003 MLS Cup ... 2005 marked the end of the line for the Quakes. After losing the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals 3-1 to the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center, the Quakes needed another two-goal comeback to win the series. After going up 1-0 on a Brian Ching goal in game two on Oct. 29, 2005, Ned Grabavoy scored for the Galaxy to end the Quakes hopes. That match marked the Earthquakes final game before the team was relocated to Houston on Dec. 15, 2005.

He is now second all-time in saves (1,161), second all-time in shutouts (74) and fourth all-time in wins (104) in league history. For San Jose, Cannon is first in club history as a goalkeeper in starts (171), minutes played (15,561), saves (693), wins (66), and shutouts (44) and second in appearances (171), goals against average (1.32), and saves percentage (73.0). He also holds the team's all-time record for saves in a game with 12 on July 8, 2000 at Colorado.
Corrales Among All-Time Leaders
Ramiro Corrales has the most appearances in franchise history with 184 and has made 168 starts, while logging 14,935 minutes played as a member of the Quakes. He is now alone in second place in franchise history in starts, second in all-time in club history for minutes played and ninth in assists with 21.
