Major League Soccer piled onto the Quakes personnel woes with an additional one-game suspension levied against San Jose defender Jason Hernandez for his retaliation against Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury.
During Saturday's match, Bunbury elbowed San Jose defender Tim Ward in the face. Bunbury walked away without a foul called or any disciplinary action from MLS.
Hernandez retaliated on Bunbury later in the match and was immediately shown a red card. Due to his sending off, Hernandez will miss Saturday's match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The additional one-game suspension will force Hernandez to also miss San Jose's August 28 match versus the New York Red Bulls.
Already short on personnel due to injuries - Ramiro Corrales, Chris Leitch, Andre Luiz, Joe Cannon and Ike Opara are listed as out for this weekend's match - Hernandez's additional suspension is a major blow to the Quakes depth chart.
