Fresh off a thrilling 3-2 victory over Toronto FC at BMO Field last Saturday, the San Jose Earthquakes play two games in the span of four days, beginning with a home game against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, September 29th at 8 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium. At halftime of that game, former Earthquakes player Ronald Cerritos will be inducted into the Earthquakes Hall of Fame. The game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet California, ESPN3.com, 1220 KDOW (English) and 1370 KZSF (in Spanish). The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Ronald Cerritos pin, presented by Xfinity.
The Earthquakes then travel to take on the Columbus Crew on Saturday, October 2nd at 4:30 p.m. PT at Crew Stadium, which will be broadcast live on MLS Direct Kick and 1220 KDOW. Earlier this season, the Earthquakes defeated the Fire 2-1 on April 10th at Toyota Park with goals from forward Arturo Alvarez and defender Ike Opara, and earned a 2-2 draw against the Crew on Wednesday, June 2nd at Buck Shaw Stadium. Alvarez and forward Chris Wondolowski each scored a goal for San Jose.

The San Jose Earthquakes picked up another road win with a 3-2 victory in Toronto on Saturday afternoon. Chris Wondolowski became the third player in franchise history to score a hat trick in a game with all three goals for San Jose on the afternoon.The Quakes jumped on top of Toronto early, as Bobby Convey outworked Dan Gargan for the ball in the back, and when he beat him on the dribble, Gargan pulled him down as San Jose earned a penalty. Wondolowski hammered home his team-leading tenth goal of the season, leaving Stefan Frei with no chance on the well taken penalty. Wondolowski doubled his tally in the 53rd minute after a great buildup found him alone in front of the net, and his finish on a Ryan Johnson cross gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Dwayne De Rosario pulled the home side within a goal in the 66th minute as he chipped Jon Busch to his back post, which looked to give Toronto some momentum. The Quakes had other ideas as just one minute later, Wondolowski became the third player in franchise history to record a hat trick, joining Landon Donovan and Dwayne De Rosario, who did the trick in back to back games in September of 2003. Wondolowski was played in again by Johnson, and his right-footed blast from just inside the area was an immediate response to De Rosario’s goal. Toronto answered again, this time in the 79th minute when Maicon Santos tapped in a Chad Barrett cross, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Quakes held on for a 3-2 win.

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,276 in Chicago’s home opener at Toyota Park. San Jose capitalized on a communication breakdown between Fire ‘keeper Andrew Dykstra and defender C.J. Brown to take the lead. Arturo Alvarez was the hero for the Earthquakes, chipping an 18-yard shot over the heads of Brown and Dykstra – who were still on the ground after colliding – to score in the 49th minute. Marco Pappa put the Fire level only three minutes after San Jose opened the scoring, ripping a 25-yard shot into the right upper 90. Pappa was assisted on the goal by Collins John, who laid off a Patrick Nyarko pass directly into the path of Pappa, allowing the Guatemalan midfielder to shoot on the first touch. The Fire almost scored again in the 73rd minute when Patrick Nyarko pulled Cannon out of net before squaring the ball to John at the top of the 18. John one-timed his shot towards goal, but San Jose's Jason Hernandez came up with a miraculous goal line clearance to keep the game knotted up at one. Nine minutes later, the Earthquakes made the Fire pay for their near miss, when rookie defender Opara headed midfielder Bobby Convey’s cross into the back of the net from eight yards out for the game-winner.

The San Jose Earthquakes battled back not once, but twice on Wednesday night at Buck Shaw Stadium to earn a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew. San Jose fell behind in the fifth minute when Eddie Gaven finished into an empty net off of a rebound to give the visitors the early advantage. Just seconds after the restart, San Jose was level. Arturo Alvarez finished from just inside the area on a feed from Andre Luiz. Alvarez beat William Hesmer low to his near post. Columbus pulled in front yet again, this time in the 70th minute off a corner, when Chad Marshall headed home a Guillermo Barros Schelotto cross. San Jose equalized on another set piece, as Bobby Convey picked up his career-high tying seventh assist of the season, when his cross was flicked on by Scott Sealy at the front post to an unmarked Chris Wondolowski. He headed home his team-leading and career-high sixth goal of the year.

Cerritos to Be Inducted into San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame on Wednesday
Former Earthquakes great Ronald Cerritos will be inducted into the San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame during a halftime ceremony on Wednesday, September 29th when the Earthquakes host the Chicago Fire at Buck Shaw Stadium at 8 p.m. PT. Cerritos, the all-time club leader in goals scored and assists, will join former Earthquakes player and current general manager John Doyle as the lone members of the club Hall of Fame.
Wondolowski Becomes Third Player in Club History to Record Hat-Trick
Forward Chris Wondolowski became just the third player in club history to record a hat-trick when he scored all three goals in San Jose’s 3-2 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday, September 25th at BMO Field. Landon Donovan recorded the first hat-trick in Earthquakes history on September 20, 2003 in a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Wizards. One game later, forward Dwayne De Rosario notched the second hat-trick in club history in 5-2 win over the Dallas Burn on September 27th. Additionally, Wondolowski is one of only five players to record a hat-trick this season. The other four are Brian Ching of the Houston Dynamo, Sebastien Le Toux of the Philadelphia Union, Blaise Nkufo of Seattle Sounders FC and Zack Schilawski of the New England Revolution. On the season, Wondolowski has a career-high 12 goals, which is the most goals scored by an Earthquakes player since Brian Ching tallied 12 in 2004.
Wondolowski Earns MLS Player of the Week Honors
San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski was named MLS Player of the Week on Monday, September 27th for his three goal performance in the Earthquakes’ 3-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday, September 25th. It is the first time Wondolowski has earned Player of the Week honors in his career, and the first Earthquakes player to win the award since Ronnie O’Brien in August 2008.
Johnson, Convey Set a Career-High in Assists in a Single Season
San Jose forward Ryan Johnson and midfielder Bobby Convey each set career-highs in assists in a single season in the Earthquakes’ 3-2 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday, September 25th. Johnson notched his fifth and sixth assists of the season while Convey tallied his 10th, both of which came on forward Chris Wondolowski’s third goal of the game. Johnson also assisted on Wondolowski’s second goal. Johnson’s previous career-high in assists in a single season was two, achieved in 2009. Convey’s previous career-high in assists in a single season was seven, achieved in 2001 when he was a member of D.C. United.

Earthquakes Designated Player Geovanni notched his second career MLS assist in the 53rd minute of San Jose’s 3-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Brazilian played Ryan Johnson down the left sideline, and his one-touch cross found an unmarked Chris Wondolowski for the second goal of the match. Geovanni previously scored and recorded an assist in the Quakes 2-1 win in Houston on Sept. 5.

Earthquakes, Club Quake and SSV Team up for LLS Light the Night Walk
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that they have partnered with their supporter’s group, Club Quake, and the Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation for the third straight year to participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk on Saturday, Oct. 23 in San Jose. Earthquakes players, members of the team’s front office, along with Earthquakes fans will walk in the event that raises funds and awareness for blood cancers. This year the team will walk in honor of former Earthquakes player Joe Vide, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma earlier this year. The Earthquakes will also host The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 11. Six-year old Aidan Bowen, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, will perform the honorary First Kick at this Saturday’s game against the LA Galaxy. At the following match on Sept. 11 against FC Dallas, the Earthquakes will also host a silent auction for signed Earthquakes jerseys. Proceeds from the auction will benefit both LLS and the San Jose Earthquakes Community Fund. Fans will be able to sign up for the Light The Night Walk at the LLS booth in the pregame vendor area this weekend and on Sept. 11.

The Earthquakes and the Chicago Fire have had a memorable rivalry since the Fire came into MLS in 1998.The most memorable game of the rivalry came in 2003, when Chicago and San Jose met for the MLS Cup at The Home Depot Center on Nov. 23. The Quakes defeated the Fire 4-2 in Frank Yallop’s final game as the head coach before returning last season. The new, reduced prices for the 2010 season are as follows; Premier Midfield $50 per game ($60 in 2009), Center Circle $35 per game ($40 in 2009), Sideline $25 per game ($35 in 2009) and Goal View $20 per game ($22 in 2009).
