Brandi Chastain is no stranger to soccer circles in the United States. Her celebration after the US won the 1999 Women's World Cup is still perhaps the single most identifiable image of soccer success in this country, carrying Chastain to almost mythical status among young female fans who have since grown into the players trying to lead the game into the next generation among US women.

Chastain has grown up too. More than a decade after her historical moment, she'll play an honorary retirement match on Saturday, a star-studded charity event at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. From there? Who knows, but Chastain told the San Jose Mercury News recently that she's spoken with San Jose Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop about a possible spot on the coaching staff, and that she may have even higher aspirations after that.

"Maybe, one day, I could become the first female head coach of a MLS team," Chastain told the Mercury News. "Is that really so far out there?"
