San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Joey Gjertsen underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this afternoon. Gjertsen had the surgery performed by Dr. Michael Oberlander at Sequoia Surgical Pavilion in Walnut Creek.
The Tacoma, Wash. native last appeared as a substitute on Sept. 25 in a 3-2 win over Toronto FC. He has made 18 appearances in his first MLS season, starting 16 games, with one goal and one assist.
The Earthquakes host the Houston Dynamo Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium at 7 p.m. PT at Buck Shaw Stadium.
