Youth Academy Tryout #2d

The San Jose Earthquakes are in Phoenix this weekend for a trio of matches in the Development Academy Winter Showcase this weekend.

Seventy-eight teams are in town to close out their 2010 campaigns. The Quakes start with Texas Rush AJ Auxerre on Saturday. A re-match from an epic 4-4 draw against FC Dallas at the SUM Cup awaits on Sunday. San Jose will close out the Showcase with the Clearwater Chargers on Tuesday.

The Quakes U-18s are 1-2-3 overall and 0-0-2 in Northwest Division play. The U-16s are 0-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 - all but one loss by a single goal.

LIMA, SILVA RECEIVE US SELECT CONSIDERATION
Forward Nick Lima and goalkeeper David Silva will play with the US U-17s on Saturday. The US U-17 Men's national Team is in Phoenix for the 2010 Nike International Friendlies.

Lima is making his second consideration for the U-17s while Silva is making his first.

"This is a great opportunity for both to be seen and considered. It's an honor to be in that elite group of kids who receive consideration," said Academy Director of Administration and Travel Fred Wilson.

SOUNDERS FC RESULT LOOKING SOLID
The Quakes U-18s were one missed penalty away from defeating Sounders FC in Seattle on Nov. 6. Instead, San Jose settled for a scoreless draw, an impressive result considering Seattle's current form.

Sounders FC have rattled off four straight wins since playing the Quakes, three in convincing fashion. That streak includes wins against Cal Odyssey (3-0), De Anza Force (3-1), Santa Cruz Breakers (3-1) and Crossfire Premier (1-0).
