Former Quakes intern Andrew Luck set for Orange Bowl
Former San Jose Earthquakes intern Andrew Luck will suit up for his Stanford Cardinal tonight against Virginia Tech in the Discover Orange Bowl (5:30 p.m. PT, ESPN / ESPN 3). The sophomore quarterback spent the summer of 2009 as a corporate sales intern for the Quakes. At the time, Luck hadn't taken a snap for the Cardinal after redshirting the 2008 season. The very next fall, Luck exploded onto the college football scene with 2,575 yards passing and 13 touchdowns as well as marquee wins against USC and Oregon. As a sophomore in 2010, Luck threw for 3,051 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading Stanford to an 11-1 record and a spot in a BCS Bowl game. Luck's father, Oliver, was President of the Houston Dynamo after the original Earthquakes of Major League Soccer relocated in 2005. He remained with the Dynamo until June of 2008. Coverage of tonight's game begins at 5 p.m. on ESPN.
