He might be the oldest player in Bob Bradley's camp, but Chris Wondolowski is making the most of his opportunity.
The 2010 MLS Golden Boot winner expects to see at least 45 minutes in an international friendly against Chile on Saturday at The Home Depot Center (7 p.m. PT, Telefutura / ESPN3). Wondo is looking for his first cap with the US Men's National Team, but a quality showing could mean more in the future.
On the eve of his international debut, Wondo took 10 minutes to answer 10 questions about USMNT Camp to date. Find out what the Quakes forward had to say:
SJEarthquakes.com: So, how's the whole US Men's National Team Training Camp thing working out so far?
Chris Wondolowski: The training camp has been real good so far. The first two weeks were pretty intense and it left all of us pretty sore, but this week has been just preparation for Chile.
SJEQ: What were the first words Bob Bradley said to you?
CW: The first words were, “Hi Chris. How are you?”
SJEQ: Which player (other than Sam Cronin, who we know is amazing) has impressed you the most?
CW: One player who has really impressed me so far is Alejandro Bedoya. He is technically sound and has a great soccer mind.
SJEQ: The average player age in camp is something like 23 years old. What's it like playing with such a young group?
CW: Even though there are a lot of young players in camp, everyone has been a true professional. Everyone has been going 100% the whole time.
SJEQ: Which guys in camp have you been hanging out with the most? Tell us something about your fellow campers.
CW: A couple of guys that I have been able to hang out with are Marvel Wynne, Anthony Wallace and Tim Ream. Marvel and Anthony are hilarious. They’re big jokesters and love to dance to any radio song.
SJEQ: Have you had any time to scope out the SoCal scene? What have you guys been up to during your down time?
CW: I haven't had a whole lot of time, but I was able to visit Venice Beach. I must say that there are some very interesting people and shops there. I could people watch there all day long.
SJEQ: How's life rooming with Sam Cronin?
CW: Sam is a great roommate. It’s nice to have someone who is very easy going. The two of us together aren’t too exciting. We watch way too much SportsCenter and complain about how sore we are. Well, at least I do.
SJEQ: You guys must be getting pumped for Saturday. What's the scouting report on Chile?
CW: We are very excited for Saturday. We haven't talked a lot about Chile yet, but we have discussed that they will high pressure and like to play one-twos all around the field.
SJEQ: Any word on how much playing time you guys will get?
CW: There's no word on playing time yet. I'm just hoping to get some.
