MEXICO CITY/NEW YORK — The Mexican national team will face Venezuela in San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium on the third stop of El Tri’s 2011 U.S. Tour, the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), together with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), announced on Thursday.

Presented by Degree Men, the widely popular Mexican soccer team will host the South American country on Tuesday, March 29 at 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local time).

Tickets will be on sale on Friday, January 28 at 1 p.m. (10 a.m. local time) by visiting www.Ticketmaster.com, calling 1-800-745-3000 or at all usual Ticketmaster locations.

Historically, Mexico and Venezuela have faced off nine times, with a 8-1-0 record in favor of “El Tri.” They last met on U.S. soil in June 2009, when Mexico won 4–0 in Atlanta in front of more than 50,000 fans. Four days later, Mexico tied Guatemala in a scoreless match at Qualcomm Stadium, which marked “El Tri’s” most recent visit to San Diego. The most recent match between Mexico and Venezuela took place on October 12, 2010 in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, resulting in a 2-2 draw..

Venezuela, known as “La Vinotinto” (The Burgundy), has yet to reach a FIFA World Cup but has been a key contender during the latest South American qualifiers. Led by their captain Juan Arango (Borussia Mönchengladbach/GER) and all-time national team scoring leader and former Chivas USA forward Giancarlo Maldonado (Atlante/MEX), Venezuela is getting fit for this summer’s Copa America in Argentina, where they will face one of the toughest groups: Brazil, Paraguay and Ecuador. Head coach Cesar Farias hopes to improve its last Copa America in 2007, when La Vinotinto hosted the regional event and reached the quarterfinals.

The Mexican national team, under the direction of new head coach Jose Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre will kick off its 2011 U.S. Tour in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome on February 9 against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
