The Quakes open their 2011 season on Saturday, March 19 against Real Salt Lake at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The match will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The first 5,000 fans through the gate will receive a free replica jersey t-shirt courtesy of Amway.

San Jose Earthquakes to Donate Money From First Match to Japan Disaster Victims
The San Jose Earthquakes will donate $1 to victims of the natural disaster in Japan for every fan who attends the team’s 2011 home opener against Real Salt Lake on Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium. Additionally, the team will donate $50 for every save an Earthquakes goalkeeper records during the 2011 season to the American Red Cross for disaster relief. Last season, San Jose had 119 saves in 30 regular season games. Fans can also contribute while at the Quakes home opener using donation bins around the stadium.

Quakes Add Gourmet Food Options to Buck Shaw Stadium Menu
The San Jose Earthquakes have added gourmet food trucks to the dining experience at their home venue for the 2011 season. The assortment of cuisine will include BBQ Kalbi, Kara’s Cupcake KaraVan, El Tonayense, Tikka Bytes and Treatbot. Additonally, the Earthquakes new concessionaire Bon Appétit will offer fans a healthier range of products, including fresh fruit and sliced apples with peanut butter. Specialty dishes like Ampai’s Thai Chicken Sandwich, the Seismic Sandwich, Wondo’s BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich and Convey’s Carved Meat Bowl. For more information, click here.

Quakes tie Portland Timbers 1-1 in final preseason tune-up
The San Jose Earthquakes tied MLS expansion team Portland Timbers 1-1 in the final scrimmage of the 2011 preseason. The visitors took the lead with a goal from Eric Brunner in the 52nd minute of the closed-door friendly held at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, but the Quakes leveled thanks to a Chris Wondolowski penalty in the 69th minute. The Earthquakes wrapped up their preseason with a 6-2-2 record.

Khari Stephenson Receives Jamaica Call-Up
San Jose Earthquakes’ midfielder Khari Stephenson received the surprising news last week that he had been called back up to the Jamaican National Team after a two-year absence. He will join the Reggae Boyz as they host Venezuela in Montego Bay on March 25 and then face El Salvador two days later in San Salvador. Stephenson has 26 caps for Jamaica, most of them earned from 2004 through ’06, when he was a regular member of the side, and has scored 3 goals.

Earthquakes – Real Salt Lake Connections
Current Earthquakes midfielder/forward Ryan Johnson played for Real Salt Lake in 2006. RSL selected Johnson in the third round of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. He played seven games and made one start. He also played college soccer with RSL forward Robbie Findley at Oregon State ... RSL midfielder Arturo Alvarez played for the Quakes from 2003-2004, and again from 2008-2010, scoring 13 career goals for the team … Quakes defender Brandon McDonald played club soccer with Findley … Former Quakes midfielder Ned Grabavoy is now a member of RSL … Real Salt Lake forward Robbie Findley and midfielder Nathan Sturgis played for current Quakes head coach Frank Yallop in 2007 on the Los Angeles Galaxy before being traded to RSL, where they also played a year with current Quakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon ... History of the Quakes - RSL Rivalry
The two teams tied 2-2 in the first ever meeting on Apr. 30, 2005 with Alejandro Moreno scoring a late goal for San Jose to tie the game at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City ... The Quakes lost to RSL for the first time in team history on May 31, 2005  when RSL defeated the Quakes 3-1 at Rice-Eccles Stadium ... RSL was an expansion team in 2005, so the Quakes and RSL have only met eleven times in their history, with San Jose winning three times and earning five draws ... RSL was the last regular season opponent to play against the Quakes at Spartan Stadium, earning a 2-2 tie on Oct. 8, 2005.  RSL knocked the Quakes out of the 2010 U.S. Open Cup, winning on penalties (5-3) after the first 120 minutes ended 3-all.

The Quakes and RSL kick-off the season once again
The San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake will face each other in the season opener for the second year in a row. Last season, RSL came away from the game in San Jose on March 27, 2010, with a 0-3 victory on goals from Javier Morales, with a brace, and Fabian Espindola. In the second meeting between these two clubs in Salt Lake City in June, the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Earthquakes Leaders vs. RSL
Current San Jose forward Steven Lenhart scored a goal for the Columbus Crew against RSL in a 3-1 win in 2009. Jon Busch posted a shutout in his first start last year against RSL in a nil-nil draw on June 25.

Javier Morales has four career goals, while Robbie Findley and Andy Williams each has two career goals against the Quakes.

Quakes to Visit Rio Tinto Stadium on July 23
The San Jose Earthquakes will visit Real Salt Lake on Saturday, July 23, at Rio Tinto Stadium in an MLS league fixture. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. PT. Last season, San Jose drew with RSL away from home 0-0 on June 25.

Wondo Could Extend Record Scoring Streak
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 23 of last year, San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski scored all 10 of the Earthquakes goals to close out the season, setting the all-time MLS record for the most consecutive goals scored by one player in league play. Wondolowksi passed former Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz, who scored nine straight for the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2002-2003. Therefore, if the forward scores the Quakes’ first goal in Saturday’s match against Real Salt Lake, he will extend his MLS record.

Wondo’s Golden Boot Tour Makes Successful Stop at the Almaden Brit in San Jose
On Sunday, March 13, MLS leading scorer Chris Wondolowski made an appearance at The Almaden Brit in San Jose to speak to fans, respond to questions and hold a photo and autograph session. This event featuring the Earthquakes’ star striker was a huge smash as fans of the team packed the British pub. This was the second stop on the Golden Boot Tour after a highly successful opening act last month at Norm’s Bar and Grill in Danville, Calif. The time and location of the third stop on the Golden Boot Tour will be announced shortly.

Quakes Win NSF ADchievement Award for TV Commercial
The San Jose Earthquakes won the ADchievement Award for Television Commercial at the National Sports Forum, a prestigious contest that recognizes the top campaign from major and minor league teams, retail stores and television networks in the sports industry. The Quakes were also finalists in Alternative Media for their use of “Win Pins” in 2010. After each home win, fans at Buck Shaw Stadium received a commemorative pin as well as a discount to a local merchant.

Quakes Academy U-16s Sweep, U-18s Split Matches In Danville, California
Both Earthquakes Academy teams hosted games in Danville, Calif. for Western Conference USSF Development Academy matches over the weekend. On Saturday, both sides defeated the Irvine Strikers, the U-16s cruising 5-1 and the U-18s winning 2-1. On Sunday, the U-18s fell to Pateadores 2-0 while the U-16s won 1-0.

Opening Day Preparation Continues at the Nutrilite Training Facility
Following the 1-1 exhibition draw over the weekend against MLS newcomers Portland Timbers and a day-off on Sunday, the Earthquakes return to training this week at the Nutrilite Training Facility in order to continue putting the final touches on their preparation for opening day. The Quakes are set to open their 2011 season by hosting Real Salt Lake on March 19th at 7:30 pm at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara. They will hold practice Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Nutrilite Training Facility, with a final walk-through on Friday at Buck Shaw Stadium, the scene of their opening match.

Earthquakes to host MLS First Kick Viewing Party
San Jose Earthquakes players Chris Wondolowski, Brandon McDonald, Ike Opara, Joey Gjertsen and Khari Stephenson will be on hand at The Brit in Downtown San Jose on Tuesday, March 15th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for our MLS First Kick Party. Attendees will have the chance to win various prizes, from match tickets to autographed jerseys and San Jose Earthquakes Prize Packs. The opening match of the 2011 season between Seattle Sounders FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy will kick-off immediately following the event at 6:30 p.m., and will be shown on the bar’s TV screens.
