Jasseh called to U-20 duty with Gambia

Omar Jasseh has been called up to the Gambian Under-20 National Team to participate in the African U-20 Championship in South Africa. Jasseh and the Darling Scorpions will kick their tournament off on April 18 against Cameroon and follow up with group fixtures against Ghana on April 21 and Nigeria on April 24.


The tournament consists of two groups of four teams with the top four teams qualifying for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. Coach Lamin Sarr has selected Jasseh to be one of six foreign-based players that will be a part of Gambia's 21-man squad. In 2007, the Gambian U-20 team placed third in the African Youth Championship.

Gambia will have their work cut out for them with perennial powerhouses Nigeria and Cameroon as well as defending champion Ghana drawn into its group.Group A includes host South Africa, Lesotho, Mali and Egypt.


Should Gambia advance past the group stage, they would face a qualifier from Group A in the tournament semifinal on April 28. The championship match is scheduled for May 1.
