SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose based Bruce's Tire Inc. took home the inaugural Silicon Valley Cup after defeating DZH Phillips 6-5 in the championship game on March 10.
Boosted by the performance of Golden Boot winner Garrett Foster, Bruce's Tire navigated group play and the knockout phase undefeated en route to the title. Their day started with a trio of wins in the group stage - 5-1 vs. Medallia, 6-3 vs. Driscoll's Strawberries and 6-2 vs. Telenav. Due to goal differential, Bruce's Tire took a No. 2 overall seed into the playoff, knocking off StubHub 5-2 to reach the final.
Awaiting Bruce's Tire in the championship was No. 1 overall seed DZH Phillips. DZH also entered the match undefeated, knocking off Telenav (2) 11-1, Nvidia 5-4 and EMC Corporation 6-1 before polishing off National Tire Warehouse 6-1 in the semifinals. The championship game was tightly contested, but Bruce's Tire took honors by a narrow 6-5 margin.
