Real Salt Lake Scouting Report

Real Salt Lake are coming off a 3-2 midweek loss against the LA Galaxy, a match in which the Utah side initially led 2-0. The loss marked the first time in club history RSL had given up a 2-0 lead to lose. Kyle Beckerman and Alvaro Saborio put RSL on the board with goals in the ninth and 24th minutes, respectively. However, a Landon Donovan brace broken up by a Mike Magee equalizer brought the Galaxy back for a win. Saborio leads RSL with seven goals while Fabian Espindola is next with six. Javier Morales tops the club’s assist chart with four followed by Espindola and Beckerman with three apiece.

Of Note

-In their 2-1 win against the Colorado Rapids, the Quakes recorded their ninth win of the season in 15 games, after only securing eight wins in 2011 over 34 games. The Quakes need four more wins to equal their best win total in a season (13 wins in 2010) since rejoining the league in 2008. The Quakes have tallied at total of 30 pts., eight away from the club’s 2011 season total.

-The Earthquakes lead all of MLS in second-half scoring, now with a total of 19 goals following the two they tallied against Colorado. Real Salt Lake have produced 18 goals thus far, while D.C. United have 17 scores following the interval this season.

-San Jose paces the league in goals over the final 30 minutes with 18. That total is six better than the next best team, D.C. United. With both goals against the Colorado Rapids on June 20 coming after the 75th-minute mark, the Quakes also lead MLS comfortably with an incredible 10 strikes over the final 15 minutes of contests. The Colorado Rapids are next on the list with seven. The franchise record for such goals is 16 from the 1998 campaign. San Jose has six goals in 2012 in the 90th minute or later, with five in second-half stoppage.

-Midfielder Shea Salinas made his first appearance for the Earthquakes in the club’s 2-1 win at Colorado on June 20 since fracturing his collarbone in San Jose’s 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls on April 14. The speedy winger previously played 90 minutes and scored a goal in a 3-1 loss against Chivas USA in Reserve League play on June 8.
