Seattle Sounders Scouting Report
The Sounders enter Tuesday’s contest after defeating amateur side Cal FC 5-0 on June 5, ending Cal FC’s dream run in the U.S. Open Cup. Osvaldo Alonso and Fredy Montero each notched a brace for the Sounders, with Andy Rose also grabbing a goal for the Sounders. The Sounders’ attack is led by David Estrada, Fredy Montero, and Eddie Johnson, with Estrada scoring five goals, Montero scoring 4, and Johnson adding three in MLS play.

Earthquakes Prepare for Nationally Televised California Clasico
The San Jose Earthquakes will host the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on June 30, presented by XFINITY, in a nationally televised event. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Galavision. The club won the first leg of the California Clasico 3-2 on May 23 at The Home Depot Center, rallying from a 2-0 deficit with a trio of goals over the final quarter-hour.


Sellout Crowd Expected for June 30 Spectacular
The Earthquakes are expecting a sellout crowd of 50,000 at the club’s June 30 match against the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid delays. 


Earthquakes to Host U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal at Kezar Stadium vs. Sounders FC

Quakes Win Bid to Host U.S. Open Cup Semifinal
The San Jose Earthquakes won their bid to host the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals on July 10 at Buck Shaw Stadium. If the Quakes defeat Seattle Sounders FC on June 26 in the quarterfinals, they would host the winner of the Chivas USA-Charlotte Eagles match on July 10 at 7:30 p.m. PT.


Quakes Sign D Jed Zayner
The San Jose Earthquakes signed former Generation adidas right back Jed Zayner on Wednesday. Per league and team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Zayner appeared in 49 games with the Columbus Crew and D.C. United from 2006-11. A No. 13 overall 2006 MLS SuperDraft selection out of Indiana, the right back spent 2006-10 in Columbus before being traded to United in August of 2010. While in the nation’s capital, Zayner started each in each of his 13 appearances.


Road Trip Wrap-Up
The Earthquakes navigated their season-long four-game road trip with a 3-1-0 mark. San Jose defeated the LA Galaxy 3-2 on May 23, Colorado Rapids 2-1 on June 20 and Real Salt Lake 2-1 on June 23. The lone loss during the trip was 2-1 against Sporting Kansas City on May 27. Of note, each of the club’s eight goals during the four-game stretch came in the 72nd minute or later.


Quakes First in the Western Conference, Supporters’ Shield Standings
With their wins against the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake last week, the San Jose Earthquakes (10-3-3, 33 pts.) moved into first place in both the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings. The Quakes are one point ahead of Real Salt Lake (10-5-2, 32 pts.) with a game in hand.


Quakes Among MLS Category Leaders
Through 16 weeks of the 2012 MLS season, the Earthquakes are No. 1 in MLS with 31 goals scored and 32 assists. With 19 scores conceded, the Quakes are also No. 1 in the league with a +12 goal differential.


Race for the Budweiser Golden Boot
Chris Wondolowski overtook sole possession of the Budweiser Golden Boot race with a pair of goals last week, bringing his season haul to 13. New York Red Bulls striker Kenny Cooper is next with 11, followed by teammate Thierry Henry and Houston’s Will Bruin with nine apiece.


Quakes Surpass Total Wins from 2011 Season
The Earthquakes recorded win Nos. 9 and 10 of the season against the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake last week, surpassing the club’s 2011 total one game before the halfway point of the 2012 campaign. The Quakes need three more wins to equal their best season total (13 in 2010) since rejoining the league in 2008. Additionally, San Jose has 33 points this season, five away from their 2011 haul.


Salinas Returns to Quakes’ Lineup
Midfielder Shea Salinas came on as a substitute in both of San Jose’s 2-1 wins last week in Colorado and Salt Lake City. He replaced Steven Beitashour in the 75th minute on Wednesday, his first MLS appearance since fracturing his collarbone against the New York Red Bulls on April 14. On Saturday, Salinas came on for Simon Dawkins in the 66th minute.


Wells Fargo Goals for Education
Wells Fargo has again pledged to donate $250 for each goal the Earthquakes score in 2012 through the Goals for Education program. With 31 goals through 16 games, the donated total for this season already stands at $7,750. Thanks to 40 goals in 2011, the partnership raised $10,000 for local youth soccer and athletic development programs a year ago.
