Earthquakes to Donate $1,000 to Operation Care and Comfort
The San Jose Earthquakes will donate $1,000 to Operation Care & Comfort as part of a promotion to benefit the organization. The drive called for fans to like the club’s team Facebook page, offering $1 on behalf of all new likes from noon on Saturday to the end of the post-game fireworks show. Operation Care & Comfort is a group that helps members of the U.S. Armed Forces by sending care packages and other donations to deployed service members or Veteran’s families.
Quakes First in the Western Conference, Supporters’ Shield Standings
The Earthquakes (11-3-3, 36 pts.) solidified their position atop the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings with a 4-3 win against the LA Galaxy on June 30. San Jose is four points clear of Real Salt Lake (10-6-2, 32 pts.) in the conference table and three ahead of D.C. Record Crowd of 50,391 Watches Quakes Beat Galaxy at Stanford Stadium
The Earthquakes set a pair of attendance records in their June 30 4-3 win against the LA Galaxy. The 50,391 at the match set a new Stanford Stadium record since the facility was renovated in 2006 and also marked a new club record for a non-doubleheader event.
Cronin, Bernardez Opens Scoring Accounts
Sam Cronin Scored his first goal in three seasons with the Earthquakes in the 47th minute to draw even with the LA Galaxy on June 30. The midfielder has appeared in 58 games with San Jose. Meanwhile, Honduran international Victor Bernardez tallied his first career MLS goal in the same game, one-timing a corner kick from Marvin Chavez in the 44th minute.
Wells Fargo Goals for Education
Wells Fargo has again pledged to donate $250 for each goal the Earthquakes score in 2012 through the Goals for Education program. With 35 goals through 17 games, the donated total for this season already stands at $8,750. Thanks to 40 goals in 2011, the partnership raised $10,000 for local youth soccer and athletic development programs a year ago.
