NEW YORK (August 9, 2012) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended Montreal Impact defender Nelson Rivas two additional games and fined him an undisclosed amount for head butting Philadelphia Union forward Antoine Hoppenot in the 68th minute of their game on Aug. 4. Rivas received a red card for violent conduct, which carries an automatic one-game suspension. Thus, Rivas will be suspended for a total of three games, beginning with Montreal’s game at New England on Sunday. (VIDEO)

Separately, the Committee fined San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski for his public criticism of the officials after the Earthquakes game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 22.

Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.
