Wondolowski named Player of the Week

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski was named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 31 on Monday.

Wondolowski recorded his second hat trick of the year in a 4-1 win against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday to pull to within two of Roy Lassiter’s 16-year-old goals record (27 in 1996). The scoring flurry also pushed the Budweiser Golden Boot leader past Ronald Cerritos for the club’s career goals mark with 62 and extended his MLS record for game-winning goals in a season with his 12th of the campaign.

The MVP frontrunner has now won four MLS Player of the Week awards this season and six in his career. He also took home the NASR award in Weeks 9, 19 and 29.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at
