Earthquakes, Kaiser Permanente Ink MLS Cup Playoff Partnership

2012 Playoffs Kaiser Permanente

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Kaiser Permanente will be the club’s presenting sponsor for the MLS Cup Playoffs, extending the community-based partnership that the two organizations signed in 2011.

“Kaiser Permanente has been a terrific community partner for our organization and we’re thrilled to have them on board as the presenting sponsor for the MLS Cup Playoffs,” said Earthquakes President Dave Kaval. “This has been a banner year for the Earthquakes both on the field and in the community and Kaiser Permanente has been with us the entire way.”

The Earthquakes originally partnered with Kaiser Permanente in 2011 for the Get Earthquakes Fit program, a five-week initiative designed for third- and fourth- grade students to be more active. The two organizations broadened their reach one year later, integrating the program into curricula at 25 Bay Area elementary schools. In addition to Get EQ Fit, Kaiser Permanente was the presenting sponsor for Health and Wellness Night on May 19 when San Jose hosted the Columbus Crew.

“We believe we have a responsibility to play a leading role in improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Yvette Radford, vice president of External and Community Affairs for Kaiser Permanente Northern California. “Through our ongoing partnerships with organizations such as the Earthquakes, the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District and the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose we are working to strengthen our communities and make them better places to live, work and play.”

With one game remaining, the Earthquakes have clinched their second Supporters’ Shield. Tickets to the club’s first home playoff game are sold out, but fans can purchase Western Conference Final tickets by visiting www.sjearthquakes.com or calling 1-800-225-2277. Groups of 10 or more should call the Earthquakes’ front office at 408-556-7700.
