Miscellaneous Notes

Quakes President Dave Kaval Named to “40 Under 40”
Earthquakes President Dave Kaval has been named to the "40 under 40" list by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Sports Business Journal. Kaval, 37, enters his third season with the Quakes in 2013 and has already helped the team to their first Supporters' Shield since 2005, while also receiving approval for a new state-of-the-art 18,000 seat soccer-specific stadium located at 1125 Coleman Ave, San Jose. Under Kaval's direction, the Quakes received approval for a soccer specific stadium located directly across from San Jose International Airport. In preparation for the 2014 stadium opening, the Quakes historically broke ground with their fans. Kaval led a Guinness World Record groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 21 that attracted 6,256 of the Quakes faithful in which participants dug continuously for two straight minutes. The event eclipsed the previous mark of 4,532 set in Jaipur, India. The Quakes have also seen ticket and sponsorship revenues increase significantly for the second straight year. Wells Fargo Goals for Education
The Earthquakes raised a total of $18,500 through the Wells Fargo Goals for Education program thanks to the club’s 72 regular season strikes and two MLS Cup Playoff tallies. The club is now sifting through donation requests to determine which organizations will receive funds through the program. Thanks to 40 goals in 2011, the partnership raised $10,000 for local youth soccer and athletic development programs a year ago.

Academy Update

Earthquakes U16 and U18 teams travelled to Sarasota, Fla. to participate in the Nike International Friendlies/Development Academy Winter Showcase. The event brought teams together from four different countries on three continents. The Quakes U16s played three matches in Florida and earned a record of 1-1-1. San Jose’s U18 team battled the same three opponents in three equally physical and taxing matches and finished with a record of 1-2. The U18s remain in first place in the Northwest Division with 21 points as they hit the holiday break. Their next match is Jan. 19 vs. Santa Cruz Breakers.
