SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will have the services of Marvin Chavez when the Colorado Rapids visit Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday (7:30 p.m. PT / CSN Plus) for Health & Wellness Night, presented by Kaiser Permanente.
MLS announced this morning that Commissioner Don Garber reduced Chavez's two-game suspension by one, allowing the Honduran winger to play on Saturday. Chavez was initially handed a two-game ban by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent in a May 8 game against Toronto FC.
Chavez, 29, has one assist in four games for the Earthquakes so far this season. He missed the club’s first seven games due to a sprained medial-collateral ligament. The Honduran international was a key piece on San Jose’s Supporters’ Shield squad from a year ago, recording three goals and a career-high 13 assists, third most in MLS.
Meanwhile, the Rapids will be without the services of target man Edson Buddle, who received a one-game suspension for a reckless challenge that endangered the safety of his opponent, Columbus Crew midfielder Tony Tchani, in the 58th minute of their May 11 game (VIDEO). Buddle has nine goals in 16 career appearances against the Earthquakes.
