Kaval's Kickoff: Preparing for California Clasico

Kaval's Kickoff New Image

It was a tough loss this weekend in the nation's capital. In spite of a flurry of late chances, we could not find the equalizer.

However, there is no better time for our players to pick themselves up by their bootstraps and show our loyal fans that they care about the storied badge they proudly wear on their chest than to get a win this weekend in front of 50,000 fans at Stanford Stadium. I think the big storyline going into our huge derby is: Can we dig deep and rekindle the magic from last season? Time will tell. I am hopeful that we can find a way to bounce back. I know the strength and determination of our players, and I think it will be evident this weekend in the California Clasico. I encourage all Quakes fans to represent and find a way to pack Stanford Stadium for the match.

The support of our fans this coming weekend will be huge in inspiring our players and getting the club to perform at the highest level. It is an incredible advantage to play in front of 50,000 roaring fans. That energy sparked the rally last season that led to a 4-3 victory against the LA Galaxy. I know that our players will respond to the singing, chanting, and screaming of our fans. Let's do everything we can to be the 12th man and give the club the advantage that we have been missing on the long, tortured "June Swoon" road trip.

I have to give a special shout out to Jon Busch this week. First of all, he is a great goalkeeper and always makes the save at the critical juncture to keep us in the game. More importantly, he is a stand up guy who has put together a great fundraiser this weekend. If you buy the Jon Busch Saves for SEALs ticket package, you get to sit with Jon and watch fireworks after the match and you receive four commemorative t-shirts. All proceeds from your purchase will raise money for the Navy SEAL Foundation. This is a great organization that provides immediate, ongoing support and assistance to the Navy Special Warfare community and their families. I could not be more proud of Jon's leadership in supporting such a great organization.

GO QUAKES!
