Miscellaneous Notes
Earthquakes Suffer CONCACAF Champions League Loss

The Earthquakes fell to MLS opponent Montreal Impact 1-0 in their CONCACAF Champions League opener at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, Canada. Montreal got on the scoreboard first by a Hassoun Camara header in the 16th minute. The Quakes' best chance of the game came by virtue of a penalty kick - which was saved by Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush - just minutes prior to Montreal’s game winner.

Goodson, Alas Make Debuts

United States Men’s National Team defender Clarence Goodson and Salvadoran midfielder Jaime Alas made their club debuts in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Chivas USA at Buck Shaw Stadium. Goodson started and played 90 minutes, helping San Jose earn its third clean sheet of the season. Meanwhile, Alas was a second half sub, replacing Cordell Cato in the 77th minute.

Earthquakes Record Third Shutout of 2013

The Earthquakes topped Chivas USA 2-0 on Saturday, earning their third clean sheet of the season and second in three games. Jon Busch was in goal for the Quakes while Steven Beitashour, Victor Bernardez, Clarence Goodson and Jordan Stewart anchored the backline.

Wondolowski’s Triumphant Return

Reigning Volkswagen MLS MVP Chris Wondolowski made a strong return to the Earthquakes against Chivas USA on Aug. 3. He netted two goals to raise his season total to seven. Wondolowski had missed the previous four matches while on national team duty with the United States at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

March to 200 Continues

The Earthquakes are three wins away from their 200th as an MLS club. San Jose secured their 100th win on July 19, 2003 against D.C. United when the Earthquakes won 2-1. Manny Lagos scored the game winner in the 54th minute.

Busch One Away from 100th Career Win

Veteran goalkeeper Jon Busch is one win away from 100 in his 13-year career. Busch has 39 wins in 106 games with the Earthquakes since signing on March 28, 2010. He also had 35 wins with the Columbus Crew from 2002-06 and 25 with the Chicago Fire from 2007-09. He recorded his first win in a 1-0 shutout with the Columbus Crew against D.C. United on April 27, 2002.
