Phillip Hausen scored his team-leading third and fourth goals of the season in support of Remi Prieur’s second shutout in the last three matches as the Quakes’ Under-16 team won its fourth straight, beating its Bay Area rival, the De Anza Force, 2-0, on Saturday.
The 16s are now 5-2. Their 15 points puts them in 2nd place behind Crossfire Premier in the Northwest Division.
The first 45 minutes of the match were back and forth, with both squads having opportunities but coming up empty. De Anza goalkeeper Humberto Melendez matched Prieur save for save until Hausen was finally able to break through early in the 2nd half. Hausen scored the insurance goal in the 60th minute.
The loss snapped De Anza’s two-match winning streak and puts the 2nd-place Earthquakes just ahead of Seattle and Portland in the standings. San Jose sits five points behind a 6-1-2 Crossfire Premiere team whose only loss came at the hands of the Quakes to open the season. Coming up this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for the 16s is a match against the San Juan Soccer Club at the Mather Sports Complex in Mather, CA.

The undefeated 14s continued their run of dominance while putting down the San Mateo County Star, 8-0, on Oct. 26. It was the squad’s sixth consecutive win to open the campaign and pushed their cumulative season scoring total to a jaw dropping 46-4. The wealth of goals were spread up and down the roster as both Luke Andrews and Pepe Diaz scored for the first time this season.
Ivan Valencia, the team’s second-leading scorer, got things off on the right foot with a 2nd- minute goal, providing a lead they would never relinquish. Alexander Guevara added his 7th of the season in the 29th minute before Diaz’s first, and the Quakes took a 3-0 lead into the half
Amado Lozano scored his 6th and 7th goals in an 11-minute stretch after coming off the bench as a sub. Andrews also entered the game late, entering in the 54th to find the back of the net for his first two tallies of the campaign in the 63rd and 73rd minutes. Christopher Sumano capped the scoring with his 2nd in the 78th minute to put an exclamation point on the San Jose victory.
Miguel Romano was once again rock solid in net with his third shutout of the year and his 6th victory in as many games.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the stretch of perfection by the 14s was no exception to the rule. They put their 6-0 record up against the identical record of the De Anza Force this past weekend and ended up on the wrong end of a 5-0 decision. The match was scoreless for 34 minutes as both keepers and defenses held serve, but De Anza was finally able to break through.
Makenna Pendleton scored his first of the game in the 34th and came out of the half with another in the 47th. It was all De Anza from there as they advanced to 7-0 and relegated San Jose to 2nd place.
The 14s take on San Juan this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mather Sports Complex as they look to get back on track.

The season has gotten off to a rough start for the 18s, but they continue to battle and take steps forward. They fell to De Anza this past weekend, 4-2, despite goals from returning team leaders Eli Padilla and Juan Velasquez.
De Anza’s Angel Rey Heredia staked the Force to an early lead in the 3rd minute before San Jose battled back and earned the equalizer on Velasquez’s 2nd of the year in the 22nd minute. But De Anza quickly got the lead back in the 25th minute and padded it to 3-1 in the 46th.
The Quakes drew closer in the 49th minute on Padilla’s 2nd goal of the season, but the Quakes could get no closer. De Anza added a goal in the 90th minute to complete the scoring and give themselves their division-leading 7th victory.
The 18s will get back after it Saturday in Mather against 1-6 San Juan at 11 a.m.
