SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes are one of five teams who will participate in a weighted lottery on Thursday at 7 a.m. PT to win the services of 21-year-old winger Brian Span.
Span played college soccer for the University of Virginia, notching 12 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances during his two seasons with the Cavaliers. He left school early and signed with Djurgardens IF of Sweden. Span spent two seasons with the Blue Stripes and is now aiming to make a move back to the United States.
The teams participating in the weighted lottery and their odds of winning are:
FC Dallas – 41.1 percent
Chicago Fire – 27.0 percent
San Jose Earthquakes – 18.7 percent
New England Revolution – 12.3 percent
Real Salt Lake – 0.9 percent
San Jose has won two weighted lotteries since 2011. The Earthquakes landed David Bingham with an 8.8 percent chance on Jan. 26, 2011 and then grabbed MarcusTracy with 4.6 percent odds on Sept. 11, 2012.
