SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez has been called to Honduras national team duty ahead of their upcoming friendly against Venezuela. Los Catrachos will host the match at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula on Wednesday, March 5.

Honduras was drawn into Group E at the 2014 FIFA World Cup along with Switzerland, Ecuador and France. Bernardez and his countrymen finished third in the CONCACAF hexagonal, earning their second-straight trip to the World Cup.

Bernardez, 31, has 68 career caps with Los Catrachos. He was a part of Honduras’ 2010 World Cup squad and was a mainstay on their backline during the 2014 qualification process. Bernardez is entering his third year with the Earthquakes. He has three goals and two assists in 49 regular season appearances during that time and was a 2012 MLS Best-XI selection.

Bernardez departs for Honduras following the Earthquakes’ final game of the Rose City Invitational on Saturday, March 1 against Portmore United (Jamaica). That game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. PT at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. with a livestream available at www.sjeartquakes.com.  Bernardez will return to San Jose in time to face Deportivo Toluca FC on Tuesday, March 11 in CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal action.
