Earthquakes Connections to CONCACAF Champions Cup
The Earthquakes are participating in their first CONCACAF Champions League. However, the club did play eight games in the previous tournament format: Champions Cup. From 2002-04, San Jose participated in three different Champions Cup competitions. Current assistant coach Ian Russell scored a goal for the Earthquakes to help them advance to the 2002 quarterfinals after a 4-1 aggregate win against CD Olimpia of Honduras. Midfielder Ramiro Corrales was also a member of those squads and scored the lone goal in San Jose’s 4-1 quarterfinal loss against Pachuca CF in 2002.
