It may have been deemed a "friendly," but our guys Chris Wondolowski and Clarence Goodson showed no signs of taking it easy against Mexico. With a roster spot on the line for the 2014 World Cup, Goodson and Wondo were already playing like they were in Brazil.
With Wondo doubling the United States' lead in the 29th minute and Goodson entering the match and making an impact late, they made their case loud and clear for head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
Just take a look at the player ratings - Wondolowski and Goodson received some of the highest marks given for their performances against El Tri. ESPN gave Wondo the second highest grade, an 8 - just behind Michael Bradley's 8.5 - while ESPN praised Goodson for his stability he brought to the USMNT's back line.
MLS editors were no different in their take. MLS gave the striker a 7 - a grade well above the class. Goodson also received a 7 for his consistency from the MLS editors, mentioning how "things got a lot calmer with San Jose defender out there."
With only three friendlies left, including one in front of our home fans at Candlestick Park, Goodson and Wondo are well on their way to booking their ticket to Brazil.
