Academy Update: Teams were 3 for 3 on Saturday

Earthquakes Academy teams were a perfect 3 for 3 in a tripleheader at Cabrillo College on Oct. 4.


Michael Anderson scored the winner as the unbeaten Under-18s notched a 2-1 victory over Santa Cruz Breakers Academy. Young Ivan Valencia broke a scoreless tie in the seventh minute. After Santa Cruz equalized in the 25th minute, the Quakes answered quickly with Anderson’s big finish in the 26th minute. The U-18s, led by coach Marquis White, shut out the Breakers over the final 65 minutes.


The U-18s (4-0-0), a close second in the Northwest Division in the Western Conference, next will face San Juan Soccer Club at Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 18.


The under-16  team earned its first breakout win of the season, 8-0 over the Santa Cruz Breakers. Kaya Fabbretti and Rhys Pak scored two goals apiece. Also scoring were Juan Carlos Ayala-Mejia, Rei Donwart, Armon Ojuola and Cameron Peuse. The Earthquakes (3-1), guided by coach Stephen Wondoloski, will face San Juan Soccer Club at Mustang Soccer Club at 4 p.m. Oct. 18.


The Under-14 team (5-0-0) also carved out a 2-1 win over Santa Cruz Breakers as Mario Rocha of San Jose scored his first two goals of the season, in the 10th and 27th minutes. Santa Cruz pulled one back on a goal by Pierce Gallaway in the 43rd minute, but the Quakes back line held firm the rest of the way. The Earthquakes, coached by Jeff Jenkins, will next travel to Marin FC Alliance on Oct. 11.
